My program prioritizes longevity, stable temperaments, and genetic consistency. I select breeders based on recorded family history, not just appearance, and I consistently evaluate each line for strengths, patterns, and areas I want to improve.

My colony has been developed in close collaboration with a university professor who has published scientific work in genetics and other areas of animal science. Their guidance has helped shape how I approach line management, record keeping, and long-term health planning within my rattery.

I apply the same level of care to daily health practices. My rats receive routine wellness checks, preventative care, and protection against mites and other parasites to keep the colony safe and comfortable. Trippy Tails operates as a closed rattery, which means I limit outside exposure to maintain strong biosecurity and protect both my lines and the families who adopt from me.

My rats live in enriching habitats with safe bedding, plenty of space, foraging setups, rotation toys, and species-appropriate diets. Kits are raised with sensory development, hands-on socialization, and clean, structured environments that support confident, resilient growth.

Health begins with intentional breeding and continues with everyday care. I make sure every rat in my program receives both.

All my rats get treated 1-3x a year with $200+ taurrus mites to prevent possibility of snake mites in my colonies. They are shipped from the UK 🇬🇧 Thank you Reptile World for working with me!
